Social change: are we telling the wrong stories?

When we see how context and environment affect an individual’s choices and experiences, we see solutions lie in better policies, not in ‘fixing’ the individual.

In this blog, Abigail Scott Paul from Joseph Rowntree Foundation argues that stories focusing on an individual’s struggles can lead the audience to believe that the individual can find a solution for the situation themselves. She highlights the importance of framing the ways in which an individual’s choices and experiences are affected by the context and environment surrounding them.
